Soca star Machel Montano, with his song Jumbie, secured more than ten times the amount of play on the road than his nearest rival to capture the 2007 National Road March title.
It is the third time Montano, 33, has won the title. He first time was in 1997, with his smash hit, Big Truck. Last year, his collaboration with Patrice Roberts on the song Band of D Year earned them the coveted title.
Jumbie was written by Machel and Kernal Roberts, the son of the late Legend Kitchener, and produced by ace producer Ibo. According to Roberts, he wants to compose at least eleven Road March songs as his father had won ten Road March titles.
Roberts penned three of the top four winning songs in TUCO's 2007 Road March, including Sugar Boy and Light It Up. Jumbie was played a total of 388 times at the four judging points while Shurwayne Winchester's Open the Gate was played 34 times.
