According to reigning Road March champion Fay Ann Lyons-Alvarez only pressure from her fans will get her to compete in another Soca Monarch competition.
After this year’s competition, Fay Ann who was the second runner up and her husband Ian ‘Bunji Garlin’ Alvarez, who captured the title, were so upset that she didn’t win that she vowed never to compete in the competition.
The statement was made on Thursday (10/07/08) at the Diamond Motors showroom in Port-of-Spain, where Lyons-Alvarez received the keys to her 2008 Mitsubishi Lancer car, the prize for winning the Road March title.
The fully powered royal blue Lancer worth $146,000 is Lyons-Alvarez’s second car prize.
The popular entertainer was also presented with $15,000 in full comprehensive insurance from New India Assurance Manager Lydia Wilson.
“I feel very elated. It is always nice to be rewarded for your hard work, but I always keep in mind that nothing that man gives you could equate to what God has given you,” said Fay Ann after receiving the keys.
The couple seems set to once again be part of TUCO’s Kaiso House as its president Michael Leggerton, vowed not to let go of the winning couple who performed at Kaiso House this year and wished them “a fleet of cars!”
“The legacy of my father has nothing to do with titles or road marches. The legacy of my father is doing good music,” said Fay Ann responding to the question of carrying on her father Austin ‘Super Blue’ Lyons’ Road March legacy. |
