St Kitts-born entertainer Juliette Mills, who has been living in the US for a number of years, has always seemed destined for success. The former St Kitts Junior Soca Monarch has performed with bands in Antigua and the US and has enjoyed success as a solo artist with songs like Yuh Watchin Meh, Ridin, The One for Me and Can you handle this.

SN: You are known to the public as Juliette Mill, was that the name you were given at birth?

JM: I use to be called Sweet-J, but I've decided to stick to my birth name for the future.

SN: How would you describe yourself?

JM: I am a fun person, real down to earth, also very positive and strive for the best in life.

SN: What is your favourite dish?

JM: I must say rice and peas, brown stew chicken and vegetables.

SN: When not working, what do you do for relaxation?

JM: I love going to the beach, and also spending quality time with my family.

SN: What is your worst nightmare?

JM: Not being able to sing, I sing all day, every day and I'll just go crazy if I can't do that.

SN: What is the most embarrassing experience that you have ever had?

JM: I try not to let things get to me, so am not easily embarrassed, but it would have to be while performing with a group for the first time and everyone was playing a different tune, it was awe full.

SN: If you leave the country you are currently living in, where would you go to live and why?

JM: I would go home to St Kitts. I love my sweet sugar city and I really want to go back to live in the future.

SN: How long have you been singing?

JM: Since age seven, but at age 17 is when I really started to get serious and saw this as a career.

SN: Who are your musical influences?

JM: I grew up listening to Whitney Houston and Gloria Estafan just to name a few, but on the Soca side Denise Belfon, Allison Hinds, Destra Garcia, Claudette Peters and Fay-Ann Lyons.

SN: How does singing/performing in front of a crowd feel?

JM: WOW, sometimes I can't describe it, it's so amazing to see your fans singing and dancing along with you, I love it.

SN: How do you choose the songs you sing?

JM: I try to write something for everyone, the old and young, something that all can relate to and enjoy.

SN: Out of all the tracks you have ever recorded, what would you say is your favourite?

JM: They're all my favourite, but right now the fans seems to like Ridin.

SN: How do you approach composing a song and where do the ideas come from?

JM: I write about things that happen every day and sometimes take a hook line from another song, you kinda know what the people want to hear.

SN: Do you think music has the power to influence everyday life and events?

JM: Oh yes, music can change your mood in a minute, whatever the event there's a song for it.

SN: How important is technology for you as an artist? What do you use to communicate with your fans? (e.g. Blog, myspace, hi5, email etc)

JM: Technology is very important, I for one use myspace a lot and also email to stay in touch quite a bit.

SN: What do you think you bring to the industry?

JM: I bring a different style, my voice is unique, I can take a little bit of all the islands and put it together.

SN: What would you like your musical legacy to be?

JM: I want to be a positive impact, giving upcoming artist a drive to follow their dreams and not losing focus.

SN: There has been an increase in soca videos over the last 5 years. Do you feel that it is imperative for an artiste to have a video?

JM: It is very important for artist to have music videos, for the fans who are unable to see you, they are able to see you perform and display your song through video.

SN: Can you describe the process of turning your songs into a video? Do you have a lot of input?

JM: I plan to shoot my first video in a couple months, I take all input, my promoting team will bring their input also and we put it all together.

SN: How do you see the Soca industry in the year 2010?

JM: I see the Soca industry climbing to the top, there are so many styles and it's amazing the whole world is really loving soca music.
