The small Caribbean island of St Vincent has been making a name for itself recently. Not only as the island in the movie Pirates of the Caribbean, but as the island recognized as putting Soca back on an International footing. This is of course thanks to Billboard Vincy Soca artists Kevin Lyttle.
The island is preparing to cement its place thanks to the recent signing of another of one its artists Jamesy P. Armed with the now infamous hook line Ah looking fuh nookie tonight juicy, juicy, Jamesy P worked his way not only into the hearts of soca lovers worldwide but into the attention of the International record labels.
Born James Morgan in St Vincent on May 18, a number of years ago, he emigrated to the British Virgin Islands in 1991. It was there while working as a barber he met Daddy Juicy and Pinchy P, who he credits with starting him in this singing thing. Although he began singing in 1993, it was only in 2001 that he joined the soca fraternity. He got his big break when he hooked up with his childhood friend Vincy Soca artist Luta on Nookie Tonight.
Now known as the Nookie Man, Jamesy P is a must in parties throughout the Soca world including Trinidad, London, New York and Miami. Recently he signed recording deals with two major International music labels. In North America and Canada he will be represented by Next Plateau, a division of Universal Records, while in Europe and the United Kingdom he will be represented by the Ministry of Sound/EMI.
When Nookie Tonight, is (re) released to International audiences this summer, executives at Universal Records and EMI will be holding their breaths as they hope it will reach and maybe even surpass the success of Kevin Lyttles Turn Me On last Summer. |
