Notting Hill Carnival
Sun 25 & Mon 26 August 2013
From its modest roots in the 1960s as a local event intended to bring some fun and togetherness to what was then a deprived and sometimes troubled area, the carnival has grown to become Europe’s largest street festival, attracting thousands of masqueraders and over a million visitors.

Notting Hill blends the traditional Trinidad Carnival elements of mas, calypso/soca and steelpan with Jamaican-style static sounds and hundreds of food and craft stalls.
The roads along the northern end of the route are designated as the assembly, or staging area for the bands; these are Kensal Road, Golborne Road and Elkstone Road.

The route proper actually begins just north of the Westway flyover and Westbourne Park tube station, on Great Western Road, travelling south. With a small left/right dog leg on Westbourne Park Road it continues down Chepstow Road, turning right at the junction onto Westbourne Grove.

This year, for the first time, there is a straight all the way along here until hitting Ladbroke Grove, turning right, and travelling the long way up and along it to the junction with Kensal Road.
Sunday: 9am - 8.30pm * because of jouvert (6am-9am) carnival may start around 9.30am

Monday: 9am - 8.30pm.
