It was interesting to read the comments from Caribbean Airlines (CA) about the new flight arrangements between Trinidad and London. CA is saying this is an improvement and will bring benefits to those of us using this new service.
Frankly, I am disappointed at these new arrangements. My understanding is that British Airways (BA) will be flying with no change of plane directly to Trinidad from Gatwick on Wednesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays, while Caribbean Airlines will fly from Heathrow on Mondays, Tuesdays, Fridays and Sundays. These CA flights terminate in Barbados and passengers will have to transfer to another CA flight to Trinidad. I cannot understand how this is going to benefit me. If anything it is a great inconvenience having to change planes, but wait, the worst is yet to come.
On the return flight to London, I have to catch an early morning flight to Barbados then wait there for an evening flight to London, thereby losing almost a day which could be spent with family in Trinidad. I have checked this out on the Internet.
Before this new "beneficial'' arrangement, I could leave home at 4 p.m. to catch a 7 p.m. flight to London. This is not the case anymore, as with this new arrangement, which is supposed to be beneficial. I will be waiting in Barbados airport for my flight to London. The only benefit I could see with these new schedules in flying BA directly to Trinidad is that their in-flight services are far better than that offered by Caribbean Airlines. Given a choice no sane passenger would choose to fly via Barbados and change planes - they would only do so if they didn't have a choice.
It seems that BA, who is flying directly to Trinidad, is going to benefit financially from this new arrangement at the T&T taxpayers' expense. Somebody in T&T, Caribbean Airlines, or the Government please explain how T&T passengers are going to benefit. Am I missing something here?
I haven't mentioned airfares. I am visiting Trinidad in July, the fares quoted by both BA and CA are over £800, but I can travel via Tobago for £500 with XL Airways. Guess which airline I will be using! |
