Teddyson John is the 2012 Groovy Soca Monarch of St Lucia. He captured his second Groovy title singing Land of Wine, which secured him an unbeatable 379 points. John dethroned 2011 winner Ricky T, who performed Mosquito and placed second, with 371 points. In third place, with 354 points, was Ambi, who sang Roll.

Twelve performers came up against the reigning monarch at Pointe Seraphine, St Lucia, on 12 July. Whilst the standard of competition was high, the battle boiled down to a head-to-head between John and Ricky T; ultimately, John had the edge.

Attention now turns to the Party Soca Monarch final on 14 July, when John is among 14 other contestants hoping to deny Ricky T another crown this year. The contest takes place at the Beausejour Cricket Ground, which will also host the Calypso Monarch final on the following day. A total of ten calypsonians, including reigning monarch Minel, will vie for that coveted title, before St Lucia Carnival culminates on 16 and 17 July with two days of street parades.

The Groovy Soca Monarch results are:

1. Teddyson John - 379 points

2. Ricky T - 371 points

3. Ambi - 354 points
