The influence of carnival is spreading faster than Japanese knotweed! The latest outbreak has erupted in the Mill Road area of Cambridge in eastern England, where a Winter Fair Carnival will take place on Saturday 1 December.

According to the Cambridge News, 450 people are expected to take part, including students from Parkside and Coleridge community colleges.

Masterminding the mas has been Ali Pretty, founder of carnival arts group Kinetika. To judge from the advance publicity, the masqueraders should make a striking sight in red and blue costumes. Visitors are encouraged to wear the carnival colours of blue, white and silver. Highlights will include a 15ft-high Silicon Queen and a clutch of mechanical dandelions.

The Winter Fair runs from 10.30am to 4.30pm. The carnival starts at the north end of Mill Road at 12.30pm then heads south-westwards to the finishing point at Coleridge Road. More details can be found at www.millroadwinterfair.org
