Trinidad and Tobago’s George Bovell missed out on a medal by some distance in the pool tonight (3 August) at the London Olympics.

Swimming in lane 2 in the final of the 50 metres freestyle, Bovell clocked a time of 21.82 seconds which landed him seventh place.

The bronze medallist from Athens 2004, swam a slower race than both previous rounds when his time was 21.77 seconds.

France’s Florent Manaudou took the gold medal in 21.34 seconds ahead of Cullen Jones of the USA who won silver in 21.54 seconds. Defending champion and world record holder Cesar Cielo of Brazil, had to settle for bronze.

Caribbean representation in the pool continues, however, in the person of Arianna Vanderpool-Wallace of the Bahamas. She sailed into the final of the women’s 50 metres freestyle in a time of 24.64 seconds. The Bahamian swims again at 7.30pm UK time on 4 August.
