Soca triple crown winner Machel Montano has unveiled his latest music video for the song Bottle of Rum.

Directed by Cowin “Dori” Thorpe, the video received its world premiere at Coco Lounge, Port of Spain, Trinidad, on Thursday 3 May before an audience of specially-invited guests.

The video features a smartly-dressed Montano receiving his prize winnings from William Munro, the man behind the Soca Monarch competitions, then proceeding to splash the cash at plush bars and on a yacht. All the while, the scenes cut back to shots of him dancing with a bottle of 3 Zero rum.

Crisp cinematography and a dramatic storyline told in reverse, hold one’s attention. However, the video is undermined by the lazy, stereotypical portrayal of bikini-clad women shaking their butts for the camera. The women’s attire, contrasting starkly with Montano’s suited character, makes them appear as cheap accessories in the film.
